Interactive Phonics

LevelUp Reader incorporates phonics in a series of interactive books to improve reading skills for young readers.

Scope and Sequence

The LevelUp Reader interactive phonics program provides a systematic phonics practice that builds students’ skills in phonemic awareness. Students progress through a fun, effective series of interactive eBooks designed to teach phonics skills following this scope and sequence.

Unit 1
Uppercase and Lowercase Letters

Students are introduced to the lowercase and uppercase letters of the alphabet and their phoneme sounds. In addition, students practice writing the letters and focus on identifying words that begin with these phoneme sounds.

Unit 2
CVC Words

Students are introduced to short vowel phonemes, mainly in CVC words. In addition, students
will learn about building short vowel words, letter sounds at the beginning and ending of
words, and word families.

Unit 3
Consonant Blends and Consonant Digraphs

Students are introduced to initial consonant blends in CCVC words, final consonant blends
in CVCC words, and final consonant digraphs. Students learn how to sound out, blend,
pronounce, and create words with consonant blends.

Unit 4
CVCe Words

Students are introduced to long vowel phonemes in silent final e (CVCe) words. In addition,
students will learn about building and pronouncing long vowel words with the silent final e,
and word families using long vowel/silent e combinations.

Unit 5
Long Vowels and Vowel Digraphs

Students are introduced to long vowels and vowel digraphs. Students will learn about
pronouncing and building words with the spelling-sound correspondences for common
vowel team conventions representing long vowel sounds.

Unit 6
r-Controlled Vowels

Students are introduced to r-controlled vowels. Students learn how to sound out, pronounce,
and identify words with r-controlled vowels in them.

Unit 7
Vowel Diphthongs

Students are introduced to vowel diphthongs. Students will learn about pronouncing and
identifying words with vowel diphthongs.

Unit 8
Multisyllabic Words

Students are introduced to a progressive list of phonemic awareness and skills including
identifying a variety of multisyllabic words. Students will learn about adding affixes to root
words, syllables, secondary sounds for consonant letters, how to build compound words, the
use of apostrophes, and homophones.
